Welcome
Welcome to Lichfield Chess Club which is one of the largest clubs in the Midlands and the only club to run twice weekly chess sessions for a large part of the yea,r using two different venues. We have 50 members and cater for those who prefer just social chess or who welcome an opportunity to experience league chess.
To that end we run no fewer than 18 teams in four different leagues, Birmingham, Derby, Wolverhampton and Cannock. This season we already have 37 membes who have won at least one league match. From End of August until the end of April we meet in the prestigious Lichfield City Guildroom building, first room on the right as you enter from Bore Street in the city centre. In addition we also meet most Monday evenings in the year in two upstairs rooms at the Brewhouse and Kitchen which is nearby at the junction of Bore St. Bird St and The Friary. Guildhall meetings are on Thursdays, at 7-15pm
Newcomers can attend meetings three times before being asked whether they wish to become members. The annual subscriptions run from July to end of June and are £48 for full members (allowing them to play league chess) and £36 for juniors and social members. At this time of the year, half way through the season, there is a substantial reduction in subscriptions.
We prefer newcomers to first contact David Short, New Member Liaison, Tel 01543 304212, email davidmshort42@gmail.com, to ensure that you are expected and not confused with visiting players. If not available, an alternative contact is secretary Stephen Smithson, stephen_smithson@hotmail.co.uk.
